A high-speed pursuit led to a low-speed foot chase and, ultimately, arrest for a Caddo County man with a lengthy prior conviction record.

Jason Avery Maguire, 37, of Apache, made his initial appearance Wednesday in Comanche County District Court where he received a felony charge of endangering others while eluding/attempting to elude police, as well as misdemeanor charges of obstructing police, possession of methamphetamine, driving without a valid license, failure to maintain insurance and removing proper or affixing improper license plate, records indicate. Due to six prior felony convictions, he faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted.

A Lawton police officer on patrol around 3:20 a.m. Monday saw a gray Toyota Camry driving eastbound on Northwest Ferris Avenue and a record check came back that the tag belonged to a 1995 Dodge Intrepid, the probable cause affidavit states.

The officer pulled the car over in the 700 block of Northwest Laird Road and the driver, Maguire, put one of his hands out of the window. When the officer told him to put both hands out the window, Maguire responded by driving off at a high rate of speed, according to police, the affidavit states.

Speeds reached over 100 mph as the pursuit continued east, police said. The Camry struck the curb at the railroad tracks at Northeast Lawrie Tatum Road and Carver Street, disabling it, according to the affidavit. Maguire got out and tried to flee before giving up and telling police he had meth in his pocket., which weighed 4.2 grams, the affidavit states.

Maguire has prior felony and misdemeanor convictions: Comanche County – January 2017, unauthorized use of a vehicle, two counts of driving without a license, and possession of a controlled drug with the intent to distribute; Caddo County – June 2018, escaping from GPS program; and Oklahoma County – May 2020, escape from the Department of Corrections, records indicate.

Held on $200,000 bond, Maguire returns to court at 3 p.m. March 12, 2024, for his preliminary hearing conference.
