Police say a Lawton man is finding fast cash through armed robberies of local fast food restaurants.
A felony arrest warrant was issued Thursday in Comanche County District Court for Toney Larue Conway III, a.k.a. Pee Wee Longway, 30, for robbery with a weapon and possession of a firearm after former felony conviction, records indicate. Due to prior felony convictions, he’s facing up to 30 years in prison for the gun charge if convicted.
Conway is accused of the Aug. 16 armed robbery of Jack in the Box, 2601 Cache Road. Investigators said as the restaurant was opening for the day, Conway came in with a handgun and approached two employees working in the back. He is accused of grabbing one person by the shirt while pointing the gun at the other and demanded the safe and cash registers be opened, the warrant affidavit states. The manager complied and Conway left the business on foot with $600 in cash, Lawton Police Detective Abe Woelfel stated.
After returning to the Rodeway Inn, 3110 Cache Road, where he’d been staying, he was seen wearing different clothing than security video showed him wearing when he left, the affidavit states. Police went into the room but never found Conway, although, his birth certificate and clothing items were left behind.
Police said this isn’t Conway’s first fast food franchise robbery in Lawton this year.
Conway has been wanted since July 10 for a felony arrest warrant for counts of aggravated robbery with a firearm and possession of a firearm after former felony convictions, records indicate.
Investigators and witnesses identified Conway as the suspect who committed a May 27 armed robbery of McDonald’s, 30 S. Sheridan. He is accused of going into the restaurant wearing a ski mask, gloves and a jacket and of pressing a handgun to an employee’s back before pointing the gun at several employees, threatening them and taking off with $13,000 from the cash register and safe, the affidavit states.
Conway’s prior felony convictions are from Oklahoma County: January 2013, robbery with a firearm and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle; and May 2015 for robbery with a dangerous weapon and possession of drugs with the intent to distribute, records indicate.
Separate $100,000 cash bonds have been fixed upon Conway’s arrest for each warrant.
