ELGIN – Fans and contestants will come in droves to the 13th annual Elgin Open Rodeo scheduled for Aug. 19-20 with an assortment of food vendors and entertainment.
“We usually have anywhere from 1,800 to 2,300 people a night,” said event organizer Tim McIntosh. The Elgin community has been a huge supporter of our rodeo since the beginning. We also have quite a few (rodeo) entries for both nights. We’ll have added money on every event and since this is an open rodeo anyone can enter.”
The rodeo events will include bronc busting, bull riding, tie down, ribbon roping, breakaway, double mugging, team roping, open barrel racing, junior barrel racing, peewee barrels and mutton busting.
In addition to the rodeo action, more than 40 vendors will be in attendance while the Elgin firefighters serve concessions. A disc jockey will provide entertainment after Friday’s rodeo action while a band will perform following Saturday’s rodeo.
Advance tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for children 5-14 years old. Tickets at the gate will be $10 for adults, $5 for children 5-14 and admission is free to kids under 5. Gates open at 6 p.m. both nights with the rodeo starting at 8 p.m. Advance tickets and t-shirts can be purchased Hardzog Gifts.
The rodeo arena is located two miles south of state Highway 17 on Keeney Road.
