ALTUS — Failure to yield at a stop sign led to a Friday afternoon wreck in Jackson County that left a 79-year-old Altus man in critical condition, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
Roger Bingham was driving a Buick Encore southbound on a county road when he stopped at the stop sign at the intersection with U.S. 62, about 4 miles west of Altus. When Bingham entered the intersection, he collided with a westbound Ford Fusion driven by Tyler Adams, Trooper Brantley Ford reported.
Bingham, 79, of Altus, was admitted to Jackson County Memorial Hospital in critical condition with internal trunk injuries, the report states.
Adams, 24, of Eldorado, was treated and released from Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Two passengers, Nicole Whitis, 26, and a 4-year-old girl, were treated and released from Jackson County Memorial Hospital, according to Ford.
A 6-year-old Eldorado girl was taken to Jackson County Memorial Hospital and then flown to OU Children’s Hospital in Oklahoma City where she was admitted in stable condition with a head injury, according to the report.
Failure to yield to oncoming traffic from a stop sign was cited as the collision’s cause.
