A failure to stop at a stop sign led to the death of a Lawton man following a Monday morning wreck west of Lawton, according to investigators.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported Jimmy Roach, 79, was critically injured from the wreck at the intersection of Southwest 97th Street and Coombs Road and he was pronounced dead upon arrival to Comanche County Memorial Hospital.
Roach was driving a Toyota 4Runner northbound on Southwest 97th Street shortly before 8:30 a.m. Monday when he went through the dirt road’s stop sign without stopping at Coombs Road and was struck by a Mazda 3 driven by Glen Gatling, 1 mile west of Lawton, Trooper Spencer Sperling reported. Roach was pinned inside for about 15 minutes before he was freed by a passerby.
Gatling, 49, of Lawton, and his 9-year-old passenger were treated and released from Memorial, according to the report.
