Elgin has a new touchdown passing leader and while the record is new, it’s all in the family.
Friday night the Owls rolled over Elk City in a District 4A-1 contest by a score of 49-6.
Owls’ quarterback Tres Lorah tossed three more TDs in the game in giving him a total of 68 in his career with the season only at the midway mark.
The record he broke was once owned by older brother Garrett Lorah who was on hand as the Owls celebrated Homecoming.
“Tres split reps early in his freshman season but at the midseason mark he took over as the starter,” Elgin coach Chalmer Wyatt said. “We had a good effort on both sides. We executed well and kept the ones in there until early in the fourth quarter when we started getting the others in the game.”
The top-ranked Owls are now 5-0 with a road test at Bridge Creek Friday.
Friday Lorah hit on TD passes to Colyn Donnelly from 8 yards, he hit Brody Morrison for an 86-yard bomb and hit Donnelly from 54 yards out to break the record.
Thursday MacArthur had little trouble winning its second District 5A-1 contest, routing Classen SAS, 61-0.
The Highlanders jumped out quick with Aivan Locklin firing a 24-yard TD pass to Josh Rushing at the 8:05 mark of the first quarter.
Then the Mac defense went to work with Matthew Steele picking up a Classen fumble and returning it 24 yards to score at the 6:01 mark. And, just under two minutes later Adam Auston intercepted a Classen pass and returned it 46 yards to score with 4:31 left in the opening quarter.
Locklin added the fourth TD of the quarter, fumbling the snap but grabbing it and racing 20 yards to score with 0:00 on the board.
It was never any closer after that point.
The area’s other District 5A-1 team, Duncan, had to outscore feisty Oklahoma City Southeast, with the Demons holding on for a wild 49-42 win.
Elsewhere around the area, Marlow continued to win, decking Lexington, 34-0, while Anadarko was handed its first loss by powerful Heritage Hall, 45-0, and in Class 2AII, Coalgate beat Comanche, 54-36.
In Class AI, Frederick blanked Okemah, 24-0, and Walters whipped Hobart, 47-28. In Class AII, Apache held off Carnegie, 22-14.
Moving to eight-man action, Empire continued to roll in BI, routing Alex, 70-24, Maysville blanked Central High, 50-0, and Caddo blanked Snyder, 47-0.
Cyril, the area’s lone BII team, had little trouble with Life Christian, rolling to a 59-20 victory.
Tipton continues to dominate in Class C by routing Corn Bible, 50-3, Friday at Don Royal Stadium. The Tigers have now outscored their opponents 242-53 on the season while starting 5-0.
But the schedule gets much tougher this week as the Tigers visit Ryan for a battle of 5-0 teams that are fighting for the District C-2 title.
In other Class C action last week, Geary beat Mt. View-Gotebo, 56-8, Grandfield blanked Bray-Doyle, 46-0, Maysville held Central High scoreless in a 50-0 win and Ryan got a 15-0 win over Temple.
This week one of the feature games finds Duncan visiting Cameron Stadium to face MacArthur in a district encounter.
Eisenhower and Lawton High are both on the road Friday with the Eagles heading to Putnam City while the Wolverines visit Western Heights as they try to start district with three straight wins.
And in Class 4A action, Cache heads to Weatherford and Elgin drives up the turnpike to battle Bridge Creek.
Other 11-man games this week include: Altus at John Marshall; Anadarko at Purcell; Crossings Christian at Marlow; Frederick at Hobart; Dibble at Comanche; Thomas at Apache; Carnegie at SW Covenant; and Walters at Okemah. The week begins Thursday with Empire facing Burns Flat.
