DUNCAN — Motorcycle riders will parade down U.S. 81 for Duncan’s annual Toy Run this weekend.
While in the season of giving, community members hope to bring smiles to area kids with a new toy for the Christmas season.
The annual Duncan Toy Run will leave at 1 p.m. Sunday from the Heritage Park movie theater in Duncan with a police escort to the Duncan Toy Shop.
Participants are asked to bring one unopened toy.
According to a release, there will be dinner of stew and cornbread served at the Moose Lodge following the run.
Volunteers with the Duncan Shop look forward with anticipation each year to public participation for this annual event.
Events like the toy run help Toy Shop of Duncan provide Christmas to well over 1,200 children in Duncan through an all-volunteer staff, totaling almost 150 people plus a committee overseeing the program, and donations.
The Toy Shop of Duncan was established in 1947 by the American Association of University Women (AAUW). In 1966, the Church Women United assumed ownership of the project as it aligned with their mission of serving the local community and had become too large for the AAUW. The Toy Shop has provided Christmas to children and families in Duncan for almost 75 years.
Donations can be mailed to the Toy Shop of Duncan at P.O. Box 206 Duncan, Oklahoma, 73534. For more information on volunteering or donating items, call 580-255-9625 or visit Duncan Toy Shop online at toyshopduncan.com.
