DUNCAN — A Duncan woman accused of breaking another woman’s nose over a stolen cellphone waived her preliminary hearing and is scheduled for formal arraignment.

Lauren Brooke Kincaid, 33, waived her preliminary hearing Wednesday in Stephens County District Court where she’s charged with a felony count of aggravated assault and battery after former felony convictions, records indicate. Her arraignment is scheduled for 9 a.m. Feb. 29.

Kincaid was arrested in November 2023 following the incident.

Duncan Police Officer Cody Earls stated he was called to a home at 923 Devonwood to a disturbance and spoke with the woman who’d been hit. She said she was at the home seeing a friend and had left her phone on the table while eating lunch and found it missing when she went to get it. She asked Kincaid and her friend to help look for it.

The woman said she checked her friend’s Life 360 locator app and it showed to be at the home, Earls stated.

Kincaid later came out of her room holding the woman’s phone in her hand along with an old phone box and, the woman said, it was missing its case where her driver’s license was placed and her SIM card, the probable cause affidavit states. Kincaid said she’d found the phone in the old phone box.

When Kincaid was asked where the missing items were, the woman said, Kincaid grew aggravated and punched the woman in the nose, breaking it, the affidavit states. Earls stated the woman’s nose was “visibly bleeding and swollen.”

After making her initial court appearance, Kincaid applied to the Drug Court program. Records indicate that on Thursday she was denied.

Kincaid has prior felony convictions from January 2016 in Cleveland County for possession of a controlled substance, and from Stephens County in May 2016 for grand larceny, according to Oklahoma Department of Corrections records.

Kincaid is being held in the Stephens County jail on $50,000 bond.
