DUNCAN — An 18-year-old Duncan man is accused of sexually propositioning a 12-year-old girl he’d met at church through social media.
The Stephens County District Court issued a felony arrest warrant Wednesday afternoon for Tyler Jean Haney for a count of lewd or indecent proposals to a child under 16, records indicate.
The crime is punishable by between 3 and 20 years in prison and due to the type of charge, 85 percent of the sentence would have to be served before becoming eligible for parole.
The girl’s father contacted Duncan police Dec. 6, 2023, regarding Haney asking for sex from his pre-teen daughter through SnapChat. They had been talking since November 2023. The girl told her father she’d blocked him from her social media and unblocked it so her father could message with him about the conversation, the warrant affidavit states. Police collected screenshots of the conversation.
Detective Zac Mitchell stated he spoke with Haney on Feb. 13. Haney said he knew the girl from church and knew how old she was, Mitchell stated. He also admitted to propositioning the girl for sex but said “he was just seeing how far the conversation would go,” the affidavit states.
A $50,000 cash warrant bond was issued upon Haney’s arrest.
