Duncan man faces sexual battery charge

DUNCAN — A Stephens County man is out on $100,000 bond after a hotel cleaning woman said he’d locked her inside a room and groped her while making an untoward proposition.

With four prior convictions, he’s now looking at up to life in prison if convicted.

Zakary Adam White, 28, of Duncan, bonded out of the Stephens County jail on Monday with the order to have not contact with the woman or a witness. He made his initial appearance July 18 in Stephens County District Court where he was charged with a felony count of sexual battery, records indicate.

Duncan Police Detective Connor Newman interviewed the woman and witness following the July 2 incident at Super 8 Hotel, 2045 N. U.S. 81.

The woman said she was cleaning the first-floor room when she saw a man repeatedly walking back and forth outside the window. After opening the door to ask if he needed anything, she said, he said he might have left keys inside and she offered to look. She left the door open and went inside to look and that’s when the man, identified as White, walked in, closed the door behind him and grabbed her inappropriately while making untoward propositions to her, the probable cause affidavit states.

White grabbed her arms, made another sexual comment and, according to the woman, when she saw her supervisor walk by the window, was able to get away with White fleeing, Newman stated.

White was picked up by police July 10. When asked about the encounter, he denied it and said the woman was lying, the affidavit states.

White has prior felony convictions: January 2020 from Cleveland County for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and larceny of a motor vehicle; and from August. 2020 from Oklahoma County for aggravated eluding police, possession of a firearm while on probation, possession of a sawed-off shotgun and third-degree burglary, records indicate.

White bonded out of jail on Tuesday, records indicate. He returns to court at 9 a.m. Sept. 4 for his preliminary hearing conference.
