Drug charges, attempted escape put Anadarko man behind bars

ANADARKO — A Caddo County man is in jail on $250,000 bond and looking at potentially life in prison after, police said, he tried to flee his arrest for selling methamphetamine and fentanyl.

Corie Tranell Robinson, 46, of Anadarko, made his initial appearance Wednesday in Caddo County District Court where he received felony charges of trafficking in illegal drugs, distribution of controlled dangerous drugs including possession with intent to distribute, and escape from felony arrest or detention, as well as a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia, records indicate.

Anadarko police were called Tuesday afternoon to a condemned home at 107 Moran Drive to check for squatters after neighbors complained about suspicious activity, Officer Charles Maldonado stated. The condemnation order was posted and Robinson was there at that time.

Officers met Robinson in the hallway. He was carrying a backpack and a baggie at the time, Maldonado stated. He dropped some loose bags and the backpack but kept his left hand clenched, the officer stated. According to the warrant affidavit, Robinson answered “ice” (meth) when asked what he was holding and he dropped it.

A glass pipe used for smoking drugs and $290 in cash was recovered from his pocket along with a cellphone and a vial containing 43½ fentanyl pills, the affidavit states. Another baggie with meth also was found, making a total of 46.47 grams recovered.

Robinson said the backpack wasn’t his. Inside, digital scales and baggies as well as another cellphone were found inside and he was arrested, according to Maldonado.

While being taken to a patrol unit, Robinson pulled away and ran, but stopped when an officer pointed a Taser, the affidavit states.

Robinson has two prior felony convictions: Caddo County, May 2011, second-degree burglary; and Grady County, February 2019, for domestic abuse — assault and battery, records indicate.

Robinson returns to court at 9 a.m. May 16 for his preliminary hearing conference.
