HOUSTON – Ivy Rosenberry hurled a two-hit, complete-game shutout, and the Cowgirls hit five home runs as No. 6 Oklahoma State defeated Houston 11-0, in five innings Saturday afternoon at Cougar Stadium.
The win improves OSU to 32-6 on the year (11-3 in the Big 12). The loss drops the Cougars to 22-16 overall (3-11 in the Big 12). Oklahoma State looks to complete the sweep tomorrow at 11 a.m. at Cougar Stadium.
Oklahoma State jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first on a double from Caroline Wang and a two-run home run by Micaela Wark.
The Cowgirls added a pair of runs over the next two innings on solo shots from Lexi McDonald and Wang.
In the fourth, Jilyen Poullard added a two-run home run to extend the lead to 7-0.
McDonald’s second home run of the day, a grand slam, brought the game into run rule territory in the fifth.
Offensively, OSU was led by McDonald (3-for-3 with five RBIs), Wang (2-for-3 with two RBIs) and Poullard (2-for-4 with two RBIs).
In the circle, Rosenberry improved to 10-2 on the year with five scoreless innings. Gigi Solis dropped to 0-1 going one inning and giving up four.
Friday the Cowgirls used the long ball again en route to a 3-1 win over the Cougars in the series opener.
Caroline Wang opened the scoring for the Cowgirls with a solo home run in the second, moving her to second in single season home runs by a catcher in program history with 12.
Jilyen Poullard added a solo shot of her own in the fifth to extend the lead to 2-0. Houston was able to grab a run back on a solo home run of their own from Lair Beautae in the bottom half.
In the sixth, Rosie Davis added the third Cowgirl home run of the night pushing the lead to 3-1.
Offensively, OSU was led by Wang (2-for-2 with an RBI), Poullard (1-for-3 with an RBI) and Davis (1-for-4 with an RBI).
Lexi Kilfoyl improved to 14-2 on the year going seven innings and striking out five. Shelby Smith picked up the loss going seven innings and giving up three runs.
AUSTIN, Texas – The top-ranked Oklahoma softball team opened its Big 12 series at No. 5/4 Texas with a 5-2 win in Austin on Friday evening, extending its winning streak to 17 games while improving to 35-1 on the season.
Maxwell spun a complete-game gem to earn her 11th win of 2024, striking out 10 across 7.0 innings of two-run ball. The left-hander scattered three hits and three walks, allowing both her runs in the seventh inning.
Cydney Sanders (0-for-1, 2 BB) led off the second with a walk, opening a two-run Sooner frame. Kinzie Hansen (1-for-3, R) singled to right, putting runners on the corners, before being called out on a runner-left-early challenge for the inning’s first out. Rylie Boone (2-for-3, 2 R, SB) legged out an infield single then Jayda Coleman (2-for-4, R, HR, 4 RBI) laced a go-ahead single into left. Alyssa Brito (1-for-3, RBI, SF) added a run with a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0 Sooners.
Maxwell continued to carve through Texas’ lineup, posting zeroes in the third and fourth before Coleman launched a monster three-run home run to right in the fifth. OU’s starter added scoreless frames in the fifth and sixth before UT threatened in the seventh.
Coleman and Boone each provided two-hit efforts to lead the Sooner lineup as the former extended her on-base streak to 23 games.
