Cache hasn’t had the type of season it was hoping for this fall but for the senior members of the Bulldogs’ football team, they are eager to face Oklahoma City Douglass tonight and hopefully celebrate Senior Night with a win.
Despite a 1-7 record, senior Brian Correa still enjoys practice and is glad he wound up in Cache after coming here with his dad to serve at Fort Sill.
“We are originally from Puerto Rico and after my dad served in Alaska and then moved to this area, I came to live with him,” Correa said. “I have had a great time here and the education I have received has been excellent with great teachers.”
Despite some tough losses and injuries, Correa still enjoys practice.
“Hey, it’s football, it’s fun,” he said. “We are still enjoying practices on Week 9 as much as we did on Week 1. A win would be huge for us on Senior Night and that’s why this is a big game for us.”
Correa specializes on offense as slot receiver and running back.
“The last two games I have had some big plays and I hope to have some more this week,” he said. “I am not a starter but I’ve been able to get in games and help our offense. We need to play well in this game.”
Correa has his plan for the future pretty well mapped out as he wants to attend college in Italy and build a career in finance.
“My girlfriend is over there in a small town in Italy and I want to end up over there to go to school and start my career,” he said. “Her name is CeCe Marchini who was an exchange student here at Cache last year. She was a wrestler and we got to know each other and started hanging out together. Now we try to spend as much time on Facetime visiting.”
Currently Correa is taking two classes he loves, Pre-Calculus and English 4 and both will help when he heads across the pond.
Before he goes, he and the other seniors have a goal.
“We hope to win this game and then after we leave we want the other classes to help build this program into something special,” he said. “Coach (Tanner) Thompson is doing a fantastic job and we want for that improvement to continue after we leave.”
Elliott eyes interesting career
Over the years we’ve had just about every line of work that athletes have offered up their idea of an exciting career and for Cache senior Austin Elliott, that goes into uncharted waters.
“I would love to be a professional fisherman,” the wide receiver/cornerback said. “I started fishing at an early age and have always enjoyed it. I do mostly bass fishing and have caught some nice ones.
“I have ponds to fish and lakes and depending on the water temperature and visibility, there are plenty of options to try out,” he said. “I just think that would be a great way to make a living.”
Elliott enjoys all his classes but he likes art just a bit more than the others and admits it’s something he enjoys and is pretty good at.
Like the other seniors, Elliott is excited about Senior Night and the matchup with Douglass.
“They aren’t as big as some of the teams we’ve faced so I think we can move the ball on offense,” he said. “We are excited about having a chance to get a win this week.”
