Community foundations open scholarship applications for Comanche County students

The Lawton Community Foundation and Oklahoma City Community Foundation announced that scholarship applications are open to Comanche County students for the 2025-2026 academic year.

The deadline to apply is Feb. 15.

The scholarship amounts range from $1,250-$2,000 and will be available for the 2025-2026 school year, according to a press release.

Since it was formed in 1999, LCF, its donors and community partners, have awarded $486,000 to 342 students from the Lawton area, the release said.

“Our members and other generous donors want to send a strong, supportive message that we value our students and their commitment to personal growth and independence,” Mike Mayhall, LCF President said. “With the cost of higher education continuing to climb, we must all work together to make sure students from the Lawton area have the resources they need to achieve their academic goal.”

“(The LCF) has a vision — to support the community today and in the future,” Kimberly Moyer, Communications Manager for OCCF said. “That is why this scholarship program is a cornerstone of the LCF and has enabled donors to connect with students since the program began. This helps students grow, make and impact their community so it’s a better place to live.”

Scholarships are open to high school seniors and college students, Moyer said. When they fill out information in their application portal, students will be connected to scholarships from both foundations.

Last year, 19 students from Comanche County received $35,000 in total awards from LCF, with other scholarships from OCCF, Moyer said.

“The cost of going to college is going up every semester,” Moyer said. “Students and their parents need to know there are scholarships that can help cover those costs. That’s why it’s important for students to update their portal profile every year so they are connected with opportunities available to them.”
