WHAT: Comanche Indian Veterans Association (CIVA) 48th Annual Veterans Day Powwow, rescheduled due to the passing of a tribal leader. Public welcome. No drugs, alcohol or weapons. CIVA is not responsible for accidents, injuries, thefts or lost items.
WHERE: Comanche Nation Community Center, Apache.
WHEN: Saturday.
SCHEDULE: Afternoon program begins at 2 p.m.: opening prayer, posting of colors, scalp and victory songs, gourd dance, honors and supper break; evening program begins at 7 p.m.: grand entry, war mother songs, social dancing, contests and CIVA special.
CONTESTS: men’s straight/traditional, first place, $300; second, $200; third, $100; women’s cloth/buckskin, first place, $300; second, $200; third, $100; men’s fancy, first place, $300; second, $200; third, $100; special contests for past and current princesses, in honor of CIVA Princess Arlene Schonchin.
HONORED VETERANS: 1st Lt. Thomas Boyt, Air Force veteran; Lance Corporal Stefano Ruiz, Marine Corps veteran; and EM2 Jarred Lee, Navy veteran.
