The Comanche County Board of Commissioners are ramping up for two bridge and two road repaving projects in eastern and western Comanche County.
Monday, commissioners unanimously approved design plans by Oklahoma City design firm CEC for county bridges on rural Cache Road, over West Cache Creek and Rock Creek. Both are located on old U.S. 62 between the City of Cache and Quanah Road and are Oklahoma Department of Transportation projects. County officials did not discuss estimated costs of the projects, which will include replacement of the bridges and the bridge approaches.
Kenny Kinder, western district foreman, said county officials hope the projects will be let for bids by year’s end, although ODOT indicated that work may be closer to a mid-2025 start date.
Commissioners also approved two inter-governmental agreements with the Comanche Nation that specifies the tribe will allocate almost $1.8 million for road projects in eastern Comanche County. The agreements are tied to projects that will upgrade roads with a new 2-inch asphalt overlay. The roads include:
• King Road, starting north of U.S. 277 at Toney Creek Road, east 4 miles, where the road ends. The tribe will allocate $1.169 million for that work.
• Madische Road and McCracken Road, in the Richards Spur area near U.S. 277, north 2.2 miles, then east 0.9 mile, where the roads end. The tribe will allocate $620,000 for that work.
Kinder said that with other road projects the Comanche Nation agreed to participate in, the tribe covers the cost of materials needed for the improvement work while Comanche County does the road work. County officials did not say when the projects would begin.
