Nineteen entities in Comanche County have been awarded Certified Healthy status under Certified Healthy Oklahoma, Comanche County Health Department and the Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) announced.
Certified Healthy Oklahoma is a free statewide public health initiative recognizing organizations that implement best practices and policies that support improved health and wellness. It offers certification in seven categories: business, campus, community, congregation, early childhood program, restaurant and school. There are three levels of certification: Excellence, Merit and Basic.
Comanche County winners are:
Certified Healthy Business
Excellence: Cosmetic Specialty Labs, INC, Comanche County Health Department, The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company — Lawton Plant, Comanche County Memorial Hospital, Elgin Family Care
Certified Healthy Campus
Excellence: Cameron University Student Wellness Center
Certified Healthy Community
Excellence: City of Lawton
Certified Healthy Early Childhood Program
Excellence: Tiff’s Daycare, Kids Under Construction Daycare
Merit: Vision’s Childcare, LLC, Giggle Monsters, Children of Joy Learning Academy, Wild & Wonder
Basic: Staci’s Family Child Care Home
Certified Healthy School
Excellence: Learning Tree Academy, Freedom Elementary
Merit: Flower Mound School, Woodland Hills Elementary School, MacArthur High School
“These certifications offer Comanche County the chance to establish environments that promote health policies and empower individuals to make healthy decisions, ultimately enhancing the health outcomes of Oklahoma,” said Brandie Combs, regional director of the health department.
Applicants received a comprehensive assessment to gauge how effectively they are supporting health, with a special focus on strategies that address physical activity, nutrition, tobacco use and mental health. More than 1,200 applications were received statewide.
Awardees will receive formal recognition for their work with a trophy and certificate.
