Congratulations this week goes to a couple of our area’s best female bowlers, Dena Hicks and Amanda Price.

Word was received that they took first place in the prestigious Southwest tournament that was held at North Rock Lanes in Wichita, Kansas a couple of months ago.

This duo teamed up in the women’s open doubles divisions and scored 1373 scratch/1533 with handicap, to earn the title, plaque and in excess of $1400 in prize money.

Congratulation Ladies!

Coletti Wins Po-Boy #4

Maddox Coletti made the trip to bowl in the Po-Boy from OKC and walked out a champion, winning the fourth Po-Boy of the series of nine events.

Coletti was top seed after two games qualifying with a 497, leading the field of 54 entrants.

The remaining field consisted of Steve O’Harris, 489, Gio Gordon, 480, Jason Owen, 463, Tony Faust-ner, 457, Robert Hempel, 453, Matt Ray, 452, Michael Pierson, 445, Anthony Sneed and Andrew Jones, 440, Connor Macdonald, 437, Barry Morris, 432, Gary Webster, 428, Nate Bryant and Amanda Price at 426 and Blaine McKinney, 423.

High scratch game winners during qualifying were O’Harris, 255 and Owen, 252 for game one and Pierson, 238 and O’Harris 225, for game two.

Advancing to the top eight in the single elimination bracket was Coletti over McKinney, 216-206, Sneed over Pierson, 224-221, Morris over Faustner 187-161, Owen over Webster, 225-195, Gordon over Bryant, 249-168, Macdonald over Hempel, 244-177, Jones over Ray, 223-213 and O’Harris over Price 203-193.

The round of eight showed Coletti with a win against Sneed, Morris beating out Owen, Gordon winning against Macdonald and O’Harris advancing to the semis over Jones.

Coletti found his groove and got the win over Morris, 232-165 and Gordon stayed in check and beat O’Harris, 238-207 to set up for final match.

Coletti didn’t let up and neither did Gordon. Both bowlers ended up with a 194 scratch score but Coletti had 3 more sticks handicap than Gordon and took the title, 224-221.

The Po-Boy tournament will be held on Monday nights throughout the summer months. Competition starts at 7 p.m. at Thunderbird Lanes. Early sign ups are encouraged and a signup sheet is now posted.

League News

Rick Olson had the best set of 668 last week bowled in the Roudy Bunch where he had consistent games of 220, 225 and 223.

In the same league, Janice Croft topped the ladies charts with a 651 on games of 209, 216 and 226.

Steve Mans led on the senior front with a 642 from the Entertainers league and Peyton Smith was the youth bowler of the week with another consistent set of 212, 210 and 213 for a 635.

No-Tap News

Monday’s senior Socialites saw John Roberts roll 278, 204 and 275 for the league high of the day of 757.

Teri Jester wasn’t far away with the ladies high set of 745 on games of 240, 265 and 240.

The Tuesday Night Tapless for all adult age bowlers reported a no-tap 300 game by John Lewis II but it was Danny Gonzalez with the high set of 754 after games of 244, 255 and 255.

Cleo Travis won the Senior No-Tap Colorama at Thunderbird Lanes last Friday afternoon, scoring 778 with handicap.

Sam Bowman took 2nd with 769 thanks to a no tap 300 game to start the day and Charles Norman walked away with 3rd place for a 752.

Teri Jester took the ladies crown with 775, followed by Sue Avis at 765.

Steve Lindsay took the high scratch series pot for a 725, followed by Sam Bowman, 712 and Jeff Bowman, 686.

Mystery doubles winners were Sam Bowman/Roy Johnson, 578, Cleo Travis/Cathy Shuman, 553 and Charles Norman/Armour Brown, 511.

Strike pot winners were Roy Johnson, Cathy Shuman, Teri Jester, Sam Bowman and Steve Jester and the challenges shots saw a little action as well.

Roy Johnson won the “21 Jackpot” by knocking down counts of eight, seven and six to add up to twenty-one and Bonnie Ledford was drawn to pick her own poison for the “Make That Spare” challenge.

Bonnie turned over cards that had her converting the 1-4-5-9-10. Not an easy task, however, a slight rotation at the last moment was all that was needed and the ball took out the 1pin and the 4pin and the 5pin did the rest for a tidy little sum as this challenge hasn’t been won in quite a while!

Join senior bowlers age 50 and above every Friday afternoon starting at 1pm at Thunderbird Lanes for this 9-pin No-Tap Color Pin fun event.
