City, other entities closing due to weather

Due to inclement winter weather, all City of Lawton offices will be closed on Tuesday, February 18, 2025. However, essential personnel are still required to report to work as scheduled.

Trash collection for Area 2 will proceed as planned, and all emergency services will remain fully operational. Residents needing to pay utility bills can do so using the self-service kiosk located in the Utility Services Drive-Thru at the northwest corner of the City Hall parking lot.

Additionally, all public meetings originally scheduled for February 18 are canceled and will be rescheduled. Updated meeting dates and times will be posted on the City’s website at: www.lawtonok.gov/government/boards-committees/board-and-committee-meetings-and-archives

The City of Lawton encourages all residents to stay weather aware, limit travel if possible, and take necessary precautions to stay safe during hazardous conditions. Updates will be provided as necessary.

Local agencies began making the decision Monday to close today and, potentially Wednesday, due to weather conditions.

Lawton Public Schools was among the districts that said it would go to virtual learning today and Wednesday because of the extreme cold. Other districts closed for virtual learning include Comanche Academy Charter School (Tuesday) and Bishop Public Schools (Tuesday). Elgin Public Schools, Great Plains Technology Center, Marlow Public Schools and Red River Technology Center announced they would be closed Tuesday.

The Center for Creative Living and Lawton Food Bank will be closed today and Wednesday due to the cold. Goodwill Industries’ Adult Day Program Services will be closed today, to include its Workforce Development Programs in Lawton and Duncan.

City of Lawton officials said the restrooms in Elmer Thomas Park, Kids Zone and McMahon Park’s skateboard park were closed because of the extreme cold. The facilities will remain closed until temperatures warm above freezing to protect pipes, city officials said.
