City of Lawton officials continue to make plans for the 2025 Trash Off.
The event, conducted in partnership with the Lawton Enhancement Trust Authority, is slated April 5 and is the city’s annual spring effort to spur residents into cleaning up the city by providing opportunities to dump bulk debris at a dropoff site, while also coordinating trash collection efforts in high profile areas such as city parks and along medians.
The parking lot of McMahon Auditorium, 801 NW Ferris, will be the coordination site. Residents will be allowed to dispose of bulky or environmentally dangerous items there between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Items that will be accepted will include used oil, batteries, tires (no larger than truck size), scrap metal, appliances, fire extinguishers, paint, and various items that can’t be thrown away with regular trash because they need special disposal.
Items that will not be accepted include medical and hazardous waste; ammunition; compressed gas cylinders; tires with rims; and commercial waste.
The event is free for Lawton residents, who should provide ID with a Lawton address, a City of Lawton utility bill or an active military ID. Those who live outside Lawton must pay a $25 fee, either in cash or by check.
City officials also are accepting applications from residents and entities that want to participate in the citywide Trash Off trash collection event.
