ANADARKO — A Cyril couple are in jail on $50,000 bonds after they were accused of kicking their 7- and 4-year-old children out on the streets.
Amanda Evinger and Charles Evinger, both of Cyril, made their initial appearances Friday in Caddo County District Court where each parent received two felony counts of child neglect, records indicate.
Cyril Police Chief Richard Jones stated he was called around 1:15 p.m. Dec. 29, 2023, to a home in the 200 block of Texas Street regarding two children who’d come to the home and said they’d been kicked out of the family home, the probable cause affidavit states. The homeowner said the children were “cold and hungry” so he’d made them lunch and called police because he didn’t know where the children belonged, Jones stated. One of the children had a sign drawn in purple marker on a white sheet of paper that read, “Pick me up.”
“I noticed (one child) was dressed in a short-sleeve shirt and pants,” he stated. “(The other child) was dressed in a tank top and short pants, however, it was cold at the time.”
Police and a DHS worker went to the children’s home and their mother, Amanda Evinger, answered the door, appearing to have just awakened, as well as the father, Charles Evinger, Jones stated. The couple said they didn’t know anything about the kids being kicked out and the mother said she hadn’t said that to them, according to the affidavit. The children were removed from the home and put into DHS custody.
The Evingers return to court at 9 a.m. May 2 for their preliminary hearing conferences, records indicate.
