ELGIN – After blowing past Bridge Creek 13-3 on Aug. 16, Elgin’s softball squad dropped an error-filled 8-3 district matchup to Chickasha on Tuesday.
Elgin’s Lady Owls dropped to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in district action.
“Welcome to high school sports. You play well in one game and the next game it’s too many mistakes. It was execution, sloppy and we were rusty,” Elgin head coach Levi Garrett said. “We didn’t play well against Chickasha, but they’re going to be at the top half of our district. The good thing about high school softball is you don’t have to wait until Friday to play your next game.”
Starting pitcher Dez Monoessy was tagged with the loss after pitching 2 1/3 innings and giving up two earned runs on seven hits. She struck out one Chickasha hitter. Jordan Johnson relieved Monoessy in the third inning, gave up one earned run, four hits and struck out three batters.
Kamber Crow went 2-for-4 at the plate while Braisley Wilson and Kelby Carter each had two hits in three plate appearances. Monoessy had one hit and one RBI.
Elgin had to jump right back into action Thursday with games against Washington JV and Lindsay in the Lindsay Festival. The Lady Owls are scheduled to play Bing and Minco on Friday.
In the Bridge Creek game, Jordan Johnson and Cora Holmgren each clobbered home runs to pace the Lady Owls to the 10-run win. Monoessy was credited with the win in the circle.
