Flagg named the AP men’s player of the year

Twin power is alive and well at a couple of Lawton-area football programs but these are actual twins, not the infamous Bell twins who have been a constant reminder of how high school kids can enjoy pulling off a prank every now and then.

A couple weeks ago we enjoyed writing about the Crabtree twins—Andre and Treyvon—who are important players for the No. 5-ranked Elgin Owls. Monday, we had a chance to sit down with the Chambers twins at MacArthur—Carson and Aiden.

Neither set of 2023 senior twins have pulled off a prank to rival what Terry Bell III did several years back while attending Lawton High School. Bell came up with the idea of putting a twin brother named Jerry beside him in the LHS Lore yearbook and it got past the proof-readers and yearbook sponsors.

These days Terry Bell III is an assistant with the Eisenhower football team and his prank is still getting laughs around town.

The Chambers twins have been asked if they had ever thought of changing classes or doing some other prank but these two seniors are not the joking type; their goal is to support the Highlanders’ football team even though Aiden is out for the year with a finger injury.

“This happened in our first scrimmage,” Aiden said while showing off his hand brace. “It was my left index finger and I don’t know how I actually hurt it. They had to go in and put three rods and screws in to fix it. But I had an allergic reaction to the rods and had to have them removed.

“I’m stuck in this brace so I can’t move it. I would love to be playing but I knew I needed to be smart because I will need that finger to enjoy a better life.”

Aiden, who is one minute older than Carson, is doing what he can to support his brother and the Highlanders.

“It really sucks missing my senior season but I know I can help by just helping keep our team motivated and doing what I can to be there to support my brother and the rest of the team.”

Both brothers also run track and Carson said their quickness is why he’s been able to help Mac as a member of the talented receiving corps.

“I’ve made some catches and I also feel like I’m a pretty good blocker which is very important in our offensive schemes,” he said.

While they do look identical, you could listen to them place their orders at a restaurant and tell them apart.

“I’m a big steak lover with it cooked medium rare with mac and cheese,” Aiden said.

For Carson the choice is well done but he will also take $100 and chow down at Panda Express or step it up a notch and go to Kudo Hibachi Grill.

Their career goals are different as well with Aiden currently serving an internship at Comanche Memorial Hospital in the rehab department.

Carson is focused on going to Oklahoma State Technical Institute in Okmulgee and getting into construction management.

This week the Highlanders visit Altus for a District 5A-1 battle and after that comes a matchup with Ardmore.

“Sometimes I think about the other teams in the district and look at their records and their players,” Carson said. “But then I think about just turning my attention back to what we need to do and that’s just focus on making good decisions and just playing together. It’s all about making smart decisions.”
