Matt Casey was our bowler of the week, coming in with an 800 series that almost wasn’t while bowling in the Goodyear Mixed league at Thunderbird Lanes.
A funny thing about bowling, just when you think that you’ve got it all figured out and the pins are in the bag, something happens that makes you reconsider, maybe you aren’t in control after all.
Casey is a seasoned bowler and former local youth all star with various honors over the years including multiple perfect 300 games.
Perfection did not fall his way during this set that started off with a front ten 288 game.
Casey finished up game two at 268 and was well on his way to the 800 mark as game three came to an end.
It was reported that Casey struck the first ball of the tenth but no amount of confidence can beat the bowling gods when they turn the stink eye on you and for whatever reason, Casey misfired and got a seven count in the eleventh.
Fortunately, it was a nice little cluster and easily spared for a 244 score and 800 on the money for Casey’s fifth career 800 series.
Also joining the honors list this week was Mike Peckinpaugh of the Entertainers league, posting a 290, 11 in a row.
Peckinpaugh had a slow start of 180 before he found the line that led to the 290, but was unable to make up the deficit with a 223 closer for a 693 series.
Adult Highlights
Even without the high rolling TNT and Suburban leagues bowling due to Thanksgiving, we still had quite a few high scores reported.
Bob Carter topped the Tuesday Night Mixed league with 729 on games of 237, 258 and 234 followed by Tory Morales who rolled 236, 239 and 246 for a 721.
Jimmy Bomboy headed the league with a 288 in the game category, and settled for 711 when all was said and done.
Chad Perry put a 719 set together in the Early Birds after starting with a 279 game and JP Nauman rolled the Socialites high set of 713 on games of 197, 256 and 260.
The Socialites was also the setting for the ladies honor roll high series of 616 by Lil Johnson and Teri Jester put a 279 in books in the Golden Years for the women’s high game of the week.
