Bob Carter showed up to sub in the Suburban league at Twin Oaks Bowling Center back on March 21st and proceeded to roll twelve consecutive strikes, out of the gate, to record his 18th career perfect 300 game.
Carter lost his carry and only managed to tack on a 190 and a 192, missing the 700 marker as so many do when leading off with an Honor.
Carter’s last perfecto came just shy of two years ago while bowling in the Socialites No-Tap Summer ’22 league.
The league was certified just in case a ‘natural’ 300 might occur, so Carter’s twelve naturals counted for record.
Keep this in mind when summer leagues have their organizational meetings. Certifying with USBC is free to the league and most bowlers already have USBC membership anyway so it might be a good decision in the long run.
Adult League Highlights
Matt Casey topped the series list with a 752 set from the Goodyear league at Thunderbird Lanes where he went 258, 212 and 279.
Suburban league secretary Jim Bomboy may have allowed Bob Carter high game honors but he wasn’t going to stand by and let high series get away with games of 265, 223 and 256 for a 744.
Joe Langley followed Bomboy with a 737 on games of 233, 258 and 246.
And rounding out the short list of 700’s last week was Tim Sprawling of the Golden Years senior league at Twin Oaks. Sprawling rolled 262, 231 and 226 to make up a 719 for series.
We may not have had many high scores last week but there were several bowlers going above and beyond the call of duty, at least far as being a teammate is concerned.
Golden Years bowler Tom Jiron rolled 105 pins over average with a 226 game and Ida Jane Adams posted a high game of 187 that was 78 pins over her average in the Socialites.
Tony Hutchinson of the Friday Nite Mixed Roller was also 78 pins over with a 212 season high game, Gary Butler was 84 over with a 211 game from TNT action and LaRon Harris rolled a career high 220 game off a 109 average in the Suburban league.
Youth Highlights
Youth bowlers were off from league bowling last week but that didn’t stop them from competing as several of our youth bowled in the annual Oklahoma Pepsi Championship and it is rumored that they did quite well. Tune in next week for details as official standings are pending.
No-Tap News
Bowlers are in tournament mode as 35 were on hand for last Friday’s Senior No-Tap Colorama at Thunderbird Lanes.
John Fortner missed last week but was back to reclaim his crown as tournament champion with an 853 handicap series, thanks to a 296 score in game two.
First time competitor Carrie Kneifel rolled the only no-tap 300 of the day and took first place in the ladies division with an 849 followed by Kathy Zerbe who scored 819 for second.
Scratch singles winners were John Fortner, 775, Dave Yett, 774, Justin Williams, 753 and James Middleton, 726.
Mystery Doubles winners were Kathy Zerbe with Roy Johnson, 619, Leilani Wiggins with Terri Hay-worth, 566 and Justin Williams with Cleo Travis, 552.
Challenge Shots saw some action after Mike Peckinpaugh went strike, strike, five count to go out in “21” and Dave Yett rolled a nine count and then a strike to go out in Match Play, Sam Bowman pulled the #3 pill and knocked down three pins to finally get a win in “Pill Draw”.
That started a trend and the big ticket winner of the day became James Middleton who left the 3-6-7-10 for a nice little bit of lunch money for the “Snake Bite” win.
Carrie Kneifel made an attempt at the “Make That Spare” challenge but her draw of the 1-5-6-7-10 proved too tough to tame.
Diane Frame picked the 8 out of the back row and Justin Williams missed ‘em all on the Even Pins Only shot, of which both will go away as next week something new is in the works to take the place of these two challenges.
Senior bowlers age 50 and over are invited to join the fun every Friday afternoon at Thunderbird Lanes starting at 1 p.m.
