PORTALES, N.M.—Katie King drilled a pair of free throws with three seconds remaining in overtime to lift the Cameron women to a 72-68 victory over Eastern New Mexico Thursday to start an important road trip for the Aggies as they try to start a climb up the Lone Star Conference standings.

On a night where both teams struggled to step to the line and make a pair of free throws, it was King who came up big in the overtime period and late in regulation. With 58 seconds left in the second half, King sank two free throws for a 55-53 Aggie lead but the Greyhounds tied it up on a Shamika Smith layup late in the game to force the extra period.

King wasted little time getting the Aggies out front, sinking a layup and drawing contact. She drilled the free throw for a 61-57 lead and while ENMU hung around for the rest of the OT, the Aggies never gave up the lead.

Adysen Wilson sank a layup at the 2:19 mark and Smith followed suit with 1:23 remaining to arrange a 65-61 CU lead. King was fouled with 0:48 remaining and she was perfect again for a 67-61 lead.

But Shipley got open behind the 3-point line and converted to cut the CU lead to three, 67-64, with 42 seconds remaining. Then Wilson for CU, Shipley for ENMU, Courtnee Cash for CU and Deja Adrian for ENMU each had a chance at the line but all four made just one of their free shots and that kept the issue in doubt until King sealed the outcome.

Smith had the hot hand for the Aggies with 28 points while King and Korie Allensworth each added 16 for the Aggies.

CU women are now 2-6 in the Lone Star standings while ENMU fell to 0-7. The Aggies head west to Silver City, N.M., for a 1 p.m. Saturday doubleheader with Western New Mexico which is 2-5 after losing to Midwestern, 71-63, last night.

The CU men were playing the second game of the doubleheader but that game was not completed by press time.
