The U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling on affirmation action won’t affect the admission process at Cameron University, campus officials said.
The Supreme Court ruled Thursday that colleges and universities cannot use affirmative action in college admissions, because race cannot be used as a factor to admit students. Brenda Dally, Cameron’s director of admissions, said the decision will not impact the university because it has never applied that criteria to its admissions process.
“Cameron uses curricular and performance requirements, like high school GPA, test scores, college retention GPA, to determine admission to the university,” Dally said.
According to reports, 41 percent of universities in the U.S. take race into account when determining admissions. Oklahoma is one of nine states that ban race-based affirmative action, taking that step in 2012.
