Cameron University will be the host site Monday for a meeting being coordinated by the Oklahoma Water Resources Board to update its Comprehensive Water Plan.
The session is set from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the McCasland Ballroom of the McMahon Centennial Complex, located on University Drive within the campus at 2800 W. Gore. The meeting is free and open to the public.
Oklahoma Water Resources Board (OWRB) officials said the Cameron session is part of a series of meetings aimed at stakeholders across the state, as the agency works on the 2025 update of Oklahoma’s Comprehensive Water Plan. While the OWRB is seeking input from everyone, officials are especially interested in local and state officials, water utility suppliers, regulated industries, commercial agricultural producers, economic development entities, and representative organizations.
The agenda will include an update on activities, including a recap of comments made during Round 1 meetings in August. Participants then will attend breakout sessions, where OWRB staff will work with residents to identify specific actions or topics that they say represent the best steps toward addressing regional water challenges. Topics are expected to include:
• Permitting, regulations and policy: Discussion points will include changes in well permitting and spacing rules; better enforcement of existing rules; and groundwater management and/or irrigation districts.
• Collaboration, partnership: Discussion points will include regional water planning; and encouraging best water management practices.
• Funding, financing: Discussion points will include existing funding and financing programs; and new programs.
