Cameron men fourth
at Oak Tree event
EDMOND—Cameron’s Men’s Golf Team had a strong showing at the Oak Tree Invitational this week, finishing fourth out of 17 teams with seven nationally-ranked programs in the field.
The Aggies shot 905 for the tournament just 12 strokes behind UT Tyler who won the event.
Individually Ethan Korock led the scorecard for the Aggies finishing in third place shooting 218 just nine strokes behind the tournament champion, Seth Bearden from Midwestern State. Maximus Cavasos also showed up in the top 10 for the Aggies finishing tied for seventh place shooting 221 for the event.
The men’s golf team will be heading to Miami, FL for the Battle at the Shores March 31-April 1.
MSU nips CU men’s tennis team
WICHITA FALLS, Texas—In a closely contest match on Tuesday, the Aggie men’s tennis team narrowly lost to 11th-ranked Midwestern State, 4-3. The Aggies dropped the LSC opener at MSU after upsetting the No. 5 ranked team in the nation Washburn on Monday at home.
The Aggies dropped the doubles point Tuesday despite Vicente Preto and Noe Milliard winning at No. 3 doubles 6-2. At No. 1 doubles Kristian Kubik and Lachlan Setina lost their first match after a 7-match win streak, 6-3.
In singles, Noe Milliard defeated No. 24 ranked Bruno Sanchez, 7-5, 7-6, and at No. 2 singles and Kristian Kubik defeated No. 31 Juan Duque 6-3, 6-3 at No. 6 singles. At No. 4 singles Vicente Preto captured his sixth-straight victory with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Philip Kamara.
The Aggies will hit the road next week to take on Lone Star Conference opponent UT Permian Basin in Odessa, TX at 10 a.m. on March 28.
Mustangs sweep
Aggie women
WICHITA FALLS, Texas—Cameron’s women’s tennis team traveled to nationally ranked No. 1 Midwestern State Tuesday in their Lone Star Conference opener and the Mustangs showed that they are a national power.
The Mustangs ultimately won the match 7-0 but the Aggies were in the contention in nearly every match. The match comes a day after Cameron dropped a hard fought match with No. 5 Washburn, 4-3.
The Aggies started off the match with a dominate performance at No. 1 doubles where nationally ranked No. 2 doubles team of Anastasia Uspenskaia and Jenna Goessel for Cameron defeated MSU’s Benzari and Ghinga, 6-1.
After dropping No. 3 doubles, 6-2, the Aggies dropped the doubles point with a tight 6-4 loss to No. 31 Yip and Garcia at No. 2 doubles with the pairing of Jankowska and Wawrowska breaking their 3-match win streak.
Into the singles, the Aggies dropped close straight set matches to nationally ranked opponents. Anastasia Uspenskaia dropped her match to No. 5 ranked Jessica Benzari 7-6, 6-4, and Magda Wawrowska lost to No. 23 Sofia Giraldo, 6-4, 7-5. Jenna Goessel lost to MSU’s No. 3 singles Anda Ghinga after winning the first set with a score of 3-6, 7-5, 6-4.
In an over three-hour long contest at No. 2 singles, Martyna Jankowska narrowly lost to Hannah Yip, 6-7, 6-4, 7-5. The Mustangs went on to win at No. 5 against Anna Deuringer and No. 6 Alexsa Paucar with scores 6-3, 6-2 and 6-0, 6-2.
The Aggies will be back in action on March 28 at LSC opponent UT Permian Basin, then on to Lubbock Christian on March 29.
