Cameron’s softball team got a pair of super pitching efforts Friday as the Aggies swept a Lone Star Conference doubleheader from St. Edward’s with wins of 3-1 and 8-0 in a walk-off finish in the second game at McMahon Field.
The Aggies will go for the sweep in today’s final game at noon. Cameron climbed to 18-11 on the season while St. Edwards fell to 9-23.
Jocelyn Bright went the distance in the opener, allowing just five hits, one run, walked one and she fanned four to run her record to 8-3.
That lone run came in the second inning but thanks to three CU runs in the bottom of the first the Aggies had all the offensive support Bright needed.
Rowley got the big inning going with a double and moved to third when the Hilltoppers committed an error on a ball hit by Alyssa Deanda that gave Taylor Rowley time to score on the play. Kiaden Boren drove home Deanda with a triple to the fence and she scored on a Tinley Schmidgall sacrifice fly to the outfield.
Stormee Reed then stepped into the circle in the second game and proceeded to allow just three hits while getting the shutout win. She didn’t walk a batter and she fanned two.
Reed also got the benefit of plenty of offensive support from the CU bats as the Aggies pounded out nine hits while scoring eight runs, four of which were earned.
Cameron scored one in the first and three in the second to take command and after two scoreless innings, the Aggies closed out the win by scoring four more runs.
Rowley once again had a major role on offense, ripping two hits, driving in four runs and scoring three runs.
She reached on an error in the first, took second on a Deandra single, stole third and scored on Boren sacrifice fly.
The bottom of the CU batting order got things going in the third as Ashlynn Bruce walked and Kelsey Loughman singled and Makena Riggs moved them up with a bunt back to the pitcher.
Rowley doubled home two runs and scored the third run with a sacrifice fly to deep center.
Schmidgal singled to start the fifth and after a fly out and a ground out that erased Schmidgal the rally was in trouble. But Loughman walked and Riggs reached when her fly ball was misplayed in left.
Rowley continued her big day with a two-run double to plate Loughman and Bruce, who had gotten on base on a fielder’s choice.
Deanda got the chance to end the game and the senior transfer from Odessa, Texas, by way of Odessa College, smacked a single to bring home Rowley to end the game.
