There will be some interesting games this week and one of the best matchups seems to be Duncan at Cache as the Bulldogs want to give new head coach Tanner Thompson a win in his head coaching debut.
That will be a huge game for both clubs but the Demons do have the edge since they got to open last week and rallied from behind to knock off Bridge Creek, 13-12.
While the Bulldogs did have a couple of good scrimmages, that’s still not like a game when special teams are thrown into the mix. There is a good deal of excitement around Cache and it looks like Canden Hance is ready for a breakout season. If the Bulldogs can play tough defense and make some big plays, this could be another game that goes down to the wire.
The old prognostigator would love to pick the Bulldogs in this one but we see another narrow win for the Demons, Duncan 20, CACHE 18.
Here are the rest of this week’s picks and we need a good comeback after several area teams had their hands full and lost Week Zero contests.
Once again, we won’t pick a winner in the Eisenhower-MacArthur game but after seeing both teams in action last week, it would seem that Ike may be a bit stronger offensively with running back Rashaud Hurts and speedster Serrie Sheridan. I bet the Mac defense has seen plenty of that slant route that Ike used so effectively against Lawton High. If Sheridan catches the ball on that route it’s normally going to be a touchdown. Both defenses will face a challenge stopping the other team’s running game and that is where this game will be won. The team that can establish a running game will pull out the win.
Here are the remainder of this week’s picks and remember, home teams are listed in capitol letters:
Thursday’s game
LAWTON HIGH 28, Enid 13—The Wolverines showed plenty of fight against Eisenhower and there is no doubt LHS has some good athletes. Will be an interesting test for sure.
Friday’s games
ELGIN 42, Dallas Hillcrest 8—Don’t know much about this Texas team but they are going to have trouble holding the Owls in check and finding a place to eat after the game.
ALTUS 21, Elk City 16—Just a hunch. I loved what Altus coach Jeremy Reed said about his bunch at the Oklahoma Sports Network media day and I feel the difference will be playing at Hightower Stadium in Altus.
Marlow 32, CHICKASHA 14—The Outlaws have to be mad after losing to North Rock Creek but it was obvious in that game that Marlow has to get better on both sides of the ball.
WELLINGTON (Texas) 21, Frederick 14—This could go either way but it’s hard to cross the Red River and get a win against any team.
WYNNEWOOD 32, Comanche 13—Another shot in the dark. Don’t know much about either team but Wynnewood has a good deal of tradition and being at home helps the cause.
HINTON 27, Carnegie 14—Another tough game to pick but the Comets do have some speed that is always a blessing.
Empire 42, TEMPLE 8—The Bulldogs are pretty good and the Tigers are just trying to build a program for future seasons.
WALTERS 14, Healdton 13—Just a thought; will this be the year of Code Blue?
CENTRAL HIGH 28, Paoli 13—Great to see Dusty Ketner get a big win last week over Bray-Doyle. Paoli beat Grandfield but the Bronchos seem to have more offensive weapons this time around.
CYRIL 38, Burns Flat 14—OK Pirates, we understand that we slighted you last week. That won’t happen again, trust me.
MT. VIEW-GOTEBO 28, Temple 6—Tigers are going to be mad after the whipping that the Pirates put on them last week at the Tigers’ home field.
TIPTON 42, Snyder 6—The Tigers may have lost some weapons but they still have a strong bunch and the Cyclones just don’t have that type of firepower.
Last week: 5-5. Season: 5-5, 50 percent.
