DUNCAN – Elgin boys’ cross-country team finished with an impressive second place showing while senior Hunter Monostari crossed the line in third at the Aug. 27 Duncan meet.
“All five who returned from last year ran well, as expected,” head coach Jon Hughes said. “They were all pretty much on pace.”
Monostari crossed the 5K finish line with a time of 17:51 followed by teammate Jordan Pierce in sixth and a time of 18:26. Owl runner Alan Lares posted a 12th place finish with a time of 19:07, Noah Bronkema was 16th at 19:17 and teammate Ben Roberts finished 20th at 19:43.
“We knew we had a strong top five and I’m pleased with the top two freshmen,” Hughes said.
The freshmen are Jake Jones and Tristan Nunez. Jones finished 22nd with a time of 19:53 followed by Nunez who finished 24th with a time of 20:12.
Cache won the team title at Duncan with 33 points followed by Elgin with 57.
Elgin will compete Sept. 2 at the Carl Albert Invitational where the Owls will likely see all of the top Class 5A teams from the west side of the state.
“You progress through September, fine-tune during October and hopefully you’re ready for the state meet,” Hughes said.
Elgin will compete Sept. 9 at the Cameron University Invitational and then head to the Lawton High-Lawton Ike Invitational Sept. 16. The Owls will join a list of elite teams in the Edmond Pre-State meet on Sept. 23 at Edmond Santa Fe High School.
