It was a high scoring week on area lanes with Jim Bomboy leading the way with a big 801 series from the Suburban league at Twin Oaks. Bomboy ran the front eleven strikes to start off the night with a 298 game when the last ball took another route to the pocket that did not work out. Games of 224 and 279 were added to make up the super set that was Bomboy’s 10th career 800 series.
Nearing an 800 set was James Biscaino, who posted a 290, 11 in a row, while bowling in the Tues-day Night Mixed, also at Twin Oaks, Fort Sill. Biscaino sandwiched the 290 between games of 255 and 246 to walk away with a 791 for totals.
Along with an 800 series and an 11 in a row, we also had a perfect 300 game to complete the tri-fecta. This time we shift to the TNT league at Thunderbird Lanes where Kellan Hill put twelve strikes in the bag to post his seventh career 300 game on record at USBC. Hill, whose last 300 game was back in 2016, added games of 211 and 217 to finish up with a 728.
There were several 700 series bowled last week. The Suburban league reported a 752 for David Gass on games of 276, 239, and 237, a 745 by Tim Lundquist that went 250, 219, and 276, a 735 by Joseph Spires on games of 247, 223, and 265, a 717 by Dylan Johnson who sandwiched a 225 between games of 245 and 247, and a 703 by Brandon Tipton that included 267, 200, and 236. Following Kellan Hill’s lead in the TNT was Mark Hill with 716 (248-201-267) and Richard Jacoby with 710 (247-194-269).
Stephen Pennington made a run for another 300 game in the His and Hers but settled for a front ten, 289. Michael Pierson rolled lights-out for a nice 740 series that included games of 257, 227, and 256. Jeff Janssen rolled the senior high series of 726 while subbing in the Socialites league. Janssen put together games of 215, 247, and 264 on the same day that the ladies’ high numbers went up with Teri Jester behind the ball. Jester had games of 225, 237, and 213 for a 675. Brant Hill led in the Early Birds with a 705 on games of 236, 214, and 255, and Damon Claunch found the line after game one (193) and posted 259-251 in the TNM to score a 703.
Honorable mention this week goes to Ladies Night bowler Danita Williams, who shot 102 pins over her 162 average with a 264 closer in last Monday’s outing at Twin Oaks.
On the youth front, Peyton Smith led with 627 on games of 222, 214, and 191 in the U18 Legends group, and DJ Scott edged out his teammate Lee Perry by one stick with a 484 series to top the U12 HotShots league.
No-Tap News
Kathy Zerbe took first place in the women’s division of last week’s senior No-Tap tournament at Thunderbird Lanes, putting together a handicap series of 913 with scratch scores of 255, 268, and 255.
Scott Brenke took first place for the men with a handicap series of 865, followed by Steve Jester with 842, and Tony Faustner rounded out the top three with 840, which included the day’s high scratch game of 282.
In the Scratch Singles side pot, Steve O’Harris won with a 798, followed by Faustner with 765, and Jester with 734.
In a rare occurrence, the bowlers who took first place prizes were paired in the blind draw Mystery Doubles, long before the first game was over. With that draw, Kathy Zerbe and Scott Brenke took first in games one (612) and two (629), but Steve Jester and his partner for the day, James Middleton, pulled out the game three win with 570 to stop the sweep.
Strike pot winners were JP Nauman, Scott Brenke, Sam Bowman, and Kathy Zerbe, who picked up the “Make that Spare” purse by converting the 1-3-5-8-10.
This tournament is held every Friday afternoon starting at 1 pm at Thunderbird Lanes and is open to all bowlers aged 50 and above. The entry fee is just $15 per person and includes Mystery Doubles and Special Challenge tickets. Strike pot tickets and the scratch singles event are optional.
Shop with a Cop Fundraiser
Bowlers love fundraisers, and we have another one coming up.
Mark your calendars for the first annual Shop with a Cop bowling event, which will be held on Nov. 16th at 2 pm at Thunderbird Lanes.
There are many activities planned for this event, but primarily it will be a 9-pin no tap team event. The entry fee is $50 per person, and signing up early will be a must to reserve a lane.
Door prizes, 50/50 tickets, and a host of other items will be in the mix, along with bragging rights as the Comanche Nation Police Department challenge the Lawton Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 98 in a bowling showdown. Pick your side and sign up soon.
Details to follow, but for further information, contact tournament director Robert Chavez at 580-291-7736.
