A Lawton man initially charged with lewd acts to a child under 16 pleaded guilty Tuesday to an amended assault charge.
Carl Wayne Sutphin, 53, pleaded guilty to a charge of assault with the intent to commit a felony, records indicate.
Comanche County District Judge Jay Walker sentenced Sutphin to serve 12 years with the Department of Correction followed by a year’s supervised release and he is to have no contact with the victim without consent of the now woman.
Sutphin was originally charged in April 2021 with the lewd acts count after the girl told her mother about being abused by Sutphin in June 2020 after the mother walked in on the girl having sexually suggestive moments with a doll, according to the probable cause affidavit. The girl told investigators he would pull his pants down and touch her with himself.
Sutphin has prior felony convictions: Seminole County, October 2002, first-degree manslaughter; and Comanche County, December 2006, possession of a firearm after conviction, possession of a sawed-off shotgun, records indicate.
Along with prison time, Sutphin owes $2,220.25 in fines, fees and court costs.
