A Lawton man is behind bars after security video showed him lighting a shirt on fire and throwing it over a fence, igniting an unoccupied dog kennel.
Lucas Dante Christon, 37, made his in initial appearance Tuesday in Comanche County District Court where he received a felony charge of fourth-degree arson and a misdemeanor count of malicious injury to property less than $1,000, records indicate.
Lawton Deputy Fire Marshal Anthony Garibay began investigating after firefighters were called around 10:15 p.m. Oct. 11 to 1112 NW Bell to put out the fire of a dog kennel next to the home.
The homeowner said Christon texted her daughter that her house was on fire and that he did it, Garibay stated.
The next day, Garibay was called back to the home regarding a second outside fire shortly before 8 a.m. The homeowner said Christon started this fire as well before taking off on foot. A burned jacket placed next to a wooden fence in the back alleyway was discovered, the affidavit states.
Security video showed Christon light a T-shirt on fire and try to throw it over the fence, Garibay stated. He was seen lighting the shirt on fire again and throwing it successfully over the fence before running into the alley, according to the affidavit.
Held on $50,000 bond with the order to stay away from the home and witnesses, Christon returns to court at 3 p.m. Nov. 27 for is preliminary hearing conference, records indicate.
