The United States Army Recruiting Command (USAREC) hosted a ribbon cutting event for it’s new Army recruitment office Friday at 1423 NW 67th St.
Formerly located at Central Plaza, the office shares a location with a Navy, Air Force and Marine recruiting office as well as other businesses.
“We just want to bring awareness if anyone’s interested in joining the U.S. Army,” Lt. Col. Peter Salfeety, Battalion Commander for the Oklahoma City Recruiting Battalion said. “I think it’s fantastic. it shows our commitment to the Lawton/Fort Sill team. This is a growing part of the city, so we moved our location here because we like to be immersed in the community and continue to give back. I think this location provides a great platform for us to be able to do that in a growing area of the city.”
The plan to move out of the mall has been in the works for a couple years.
“This has been an ongoing process,” Salfeety said. “Once we were able to get everything locked in with the landlord and the facilities, it really went pretty smoothly and quick.”
There’s more to an Army recruiting office than just recruiting. If someone wants to continue their education while serving, recruiters can help with that.
“We are here just to provide information,” Sgt. 1st Class Josue De Aquino, Station Commander for the office said. “Whether the Army is a good move for an individual or not, we’re still here to help them.”
Operating hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Interested persons can also set up an appointment to meet with a recruiter on weekends.
“We can’t think the community enough for allowing us to get in here and making it such a smooth transition,” Salfeety said.
