It is tournament season once again as we see several of our locals take to the highway headed for a number of tournament options available this time of year.

A common venue over the last several years has been the Southwest Tournament that has been be-ing held at Bowlero Northrock Lanes in Wichita, Kansas.

It’s rumored that the event may be moving to another center but for now, our folks rolled some pretty impressive scores last weekend and we have more bowlers head that way next weekend as well.

Highlighting this past weekend’s event was Megan McAnally scoring her first career perfect 300 game. Hard to believe that this talented young lady has never had a 300 game but if you’re going to do it, this was the perfect time for a perfect game.

Other local favorites in the spotlight were Jim Bomboy with a 299, thanks to a stubborn 10-pin, and David Gass with the back eleven in a row, 290 score.

And not to leave the youth out, congratulations to DJ Scott for a second place win in the Oklahoma Bowling Proprietors’ Association Scholarship Classic.

Scott earned a $350 scholarship for his efforts and Lee Perry earned a $50 scholarship in the same event for finishing in eleventh.

Adult League Highlights

Jim Bomboy must have been warming up for the upcoming Southwest tournament when he hit the lanes last Thursday night for the Suburban league.

Bomboy put together the week’s top scores of 235, 279 and 258 for a 772.

Chad Perry was a close second with 742 on games of 226, 257 and 259 and James Middleton got on Suburban’s high roller list with a 707 that went 203, 247 and 257.

Youth Highlights

Jake Croft was the youth bowler of the week, posting 185, 230 and 145 in the TBird Legends for a 560 total.

Lee Perry held up the TBird HotShots with 436 that went 166, 145 and 125 and the HotShots wel-comed first year bowler Jaxon Hacker just a few weeks ago.

No-Tap News

Herb Scott took first place in last week’s senior no tap event at Thunderbird Lanes, putting together a handicap series of 882 on games of 255, 264 and 243.

Sue Avis took first place in the ladies division with 809 and Peggy Towne rolled a 784 for second.

Scott and Nauman tied in Scratch Singles with 762 and Biegler cashed in third with 749.

Mystery Doubles winners were Armour Brown/Peggy Towne, 557, Herb Scott/Sam Bowman, 584, and Chris Biegler/Sue Avis, 599.

Strike Pot winners were Herb Scott, Mike Peckinpaugh, Randy Travis, Armour Brown and JP Nauman.

Senior bowlers age 50 and over are invited to join the fun every Friday afternoon at Thunderbird Lanes starting at 1 p.m.
