If you’re wanting to make a difference for some local kids and families in need this Christmas season, you still have time to collect your angels.
The Annual Salvation Army Angel Tree drive concludes Saturday and there are still angels awaiting adoption, said Susan Nance, coordinator. With over 700 greater Lawton area kids qualified to receive assistance, the response has been good but more of you are needed, she said.
“We’re kind of doing a big push now that if you haven’t got one, this is it,” she said. “We’ve had a lot of response in the community but we still … have quite a few out.”
All the remaining angels are on the tree at Walmart, 1002 N. Sheridan, Nance said. Donors select angels, purchase gifts, and return them to the Angel Tree by Saturday’s deadline.
Online adoptions are also live at www.LawtonAngelTree.com.
The tree, posted along the entry/exit foyer at the store’s entrance, has paper decorations providing a descriptive list of items wanted and needed hanging from its branches. Along with toy requests are items such as diapers, clothes and other household staples for the families.
Assistance is for children between birth to 12 years old who are from eligible families in Comanche, Cotton, Jefferson, Stephens and Tillman counties.
Nance said distribution will be Friday, Dec. 15, at the Lawton Boys and Girls Club, 1315 SW F. Nance said the culminating moment is something special.
“That’s an amazing day,” she said. “It’s so touching; it’s really neat.”
