A Lawton man wanted for a role in an August 2023 beating death in the Comanche County Detention Center is back behind bars ninth months after an arrest warrant was issued.
A felony arrest warrant was issued on Sept. 22, 2023, in Comanche County District Court for Danquantae Shonne Delaney, 27, for a count of first-degree manslaughter, records indicate. The crime is punishable by between four years to life in prison.
Comanche County Detention Center records indicate Delaney was taken into custody Thursday.
Four other men were charged with the same crime on Sept. 22, 2023: Kashif King, 34; Calvin Lykell Christopher Riss, 26; Edward Rendardo Brown, 50; and Markie Montrell Ishman, 32; all of Lawton.
The five men are accused of taking Matthew Jones, 30, into a cell in the jail on Aug. 16, 2023, where he was beaten to death. According to the probable cause affidavit, Jones suffered several hemorrhages and hematomas.
Delaney had been released from jail before the start of the investigation and had not been interviewed, the affidavit states.
The district attorney’s office said Delaney would not make his initial appearance in court before Monday.
Jones had been in the Comanche County Detention Center since June 1, 2023, after being charged with a misdemeanor count of breaking and entering into a dwelling without permission, records inmate.
Riss was awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty July 12 for a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia after receiving a two year suspended sentence in November 2022 to felony counts of possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of controlled dangerous substance.
A preliminary hearing for Riss is scheduled for 11 a.m. June 11.
Brown has been in Comanche County Detention Center since November 2020 after being charged with a felony count of second-degree burglary, according to court records.
Ishman has been in the jail on $50,000 bond after his initial appearance for a felony count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon in May 2023.
Brown and Ishman are scheduled for the July/August jury trial docket, records indicate.
Ishman and Riss also are accused of taking park in an Oct. 13, 2023, assault in the jail that left two inmates wounded.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Markie “Smoke” Ishman is accused of stabbing at least one inmate with a shank smuggled into the jail.
Investigators allege that Ishman and Calvin Donshell “50/50” Wynn conspired to commit the attack and that the weapon was found in possession of Riss.
In this case, Ishman was charged with felony counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit assault and battery, and Riss was charged with possession of contraband by an inmate, records indicate.
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has been investigating at least six deaths and several acts of violence at the jail since August 2023 and charges have been filed in some but not all the cases, according to Constitution records.
