Cameron’s men’s basketball team opened its home schedule Friday but the Aggies came up just shy in a 65-63 loss to Adams State.

Lavell Brodnex led the charge for the Aggies, scoring 13 points and grabbing 7 rebounds. Zaveion Okoh added 14 points, while Aaron Jacob controlled the boards with a game-high 14 rebounds.

Turnovers proved costly for Cameron, with 17 allowing the Colorado crew to turn those mistakes into 19 points.

Cameron out-rebounded Adams State, 46-34, including a staggering 17 offensive rebounds. This edge allowed the Aggies to score 17 second-chance points.

The Aggies, now 0-3, were chasing down their first win Saturday night against Western Colorado.

CU women top ECU for first win

ADA— Cameron University’s women’s basketball team delivered a strong performance in a 69-59 win over East Central University Friday.

The Aggies evened their record to 1-1. Jeff Mahoney’s club will host Southeastern Oklahoma State Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

Cameron found its long-range shooting touch, sinking 10 three-pointers on 38 percent shooting from beyond the arc.

Freshman Madison Griggs led the team with 19 points, including four three-pointers, and contributed two steals and two assists in her 34 minutes of play. Senior, Grace Alverson scored 12 points, hitting four three-pointers, adding five rebounds, three assists, and one steal.

Cameron’s bench players contributed 20 points, doubling the production of East Central. Senior, Shamica Smith dominated the boards with 15 rebounds, added 12 points for a double-double, and recorded two blocks. Smith’s defensive tenacity anchored the Aggies. Freshman, Kenly Gore provided a spark off the bench with eight points, two rebounds, and three assists in just 16 minutes.

The Aggies surged in the second half, outscoring East Central 44-23 in the third and fourth quarters combined. A strong defensive effort, highlighted by five team steals and a plus2 rebounding margin, proved instrumental in shifting momentum.

Sooners dump Stetson

NORMAN — Kobe Elvis scored 24 points, Jalon Moore added 21, and slow-starting Oklahoma defeated Stetson, 85-64, Saturday.

Jordan Wood and Abramo Canka hit 3-pointers in an 8-0 run that got Stetson within 51-43 with 14 minutes left to play. A few minutes later, Oklahoma took control as Moore scored 11 points in a 16-0 run that gave Oklahoma a 70-46 lead 7 1/2 minutes to go.

Jeremiah Fears scored 11 points for Oklahoma and Sam Godwin grabbed 10 rebounds.

Canka led the Hatters with 22 points. He hit 4-of-5 3-pointers. Wood added 11 points but was 1-for-7 from deep.

Oklahoma trailed or was tied for the first 9 1/2 minutes before finally going ahead 20-19 on a layup by Godwin. The Sooners outscored the Hatters 24-9 over the rest of the first half. Elvis led the way in the first half with 19 points on 8-of-9 shooting and 3 of 4 3-pointers.
