Our headline sounds like a weather forecast as bowlers faced chilly conditions on the lanes last week. At least, that is what it looks like as I glance over the league press reports, looking for a story or two.
I went through several pages before I found a 700 series to write about and a several more pages before finding only a couple more so I am left wondering what these folks found that no one else could?
Leading the masses with a 729 series was James Ray of the TNT league at Thunderbird Lanes.
Ray rolled 226 and 214 before lining up for a front ten grand finale that ended at 289.
Bowling in the same league, Danny Carson faced adversity in game one but managed to put a 182 on the board before he found the groove and rolled 278 and 258 to end his night with a 718 for series.
In other TNT news, Kellan Hill started out with a 279 but was fortunate to finish with 205 and 201 and Amanda Price came in a pin shy of the 700 mark after starting off with a 187 score.
Price lined up for 247 and 265 to make up the 699 for series.
Andrea Halstead however did make it over the hump, posting 242, 215 and 262 for a 719 series to round out the top three high rollers.
Halstead’s dominating set was bowled in the Tuesday Night Mixed league at Twin Oaks.
Even the Suburban league was left in the cold with only a couple of high games to report.
Patrick Mullins and Bill Kaplan was a frame away with 279’s a piece and Brandon Tipton, who had the night’s high series of 696, rolled a 277.
Youth Highlights
Peyton Smith was the youth bowler of the week with a 585 series on games of 203, 178 and 204, bowled in the TBird Legends.
The Legends league continues to add new youth bowlers and last week, they welcomed John McCracken to the roster.
John made his league bowling debut with games of 145 and 142 before putting his first career 200 game in the books of 202. That’s how we hook ‘em, welcome to the sport John.
Joseph Resler was the TBird HotShots star player rolling 114, 167 and 155 for a 436 league high series.
No-Tap News
Mike Peckinpaugh was the big winner in the Senior No-Tap Colorama at Thunderbird Lanes last Friday afternoon, taking home first place in the handicap division with an 816 and first place in the scratch division with a 771.
Herbert Scott came in second in handicap with a 790 and Sam Bowman finished in third for honorable mention with a 777.
Bowman earned second place in the scratch event with 723, followed by Leilani Wiggins with the third highest scratch series of 662.
Wiggins took first place in the women’s division with 806, followed by Sue Avis at 728.
There was an odd number over entrants in last week’s competition and Mike Peckinpaugh paid to take the other spot to even out the Mystery Doubles event.
It’s not often that the bowler who pays double actually cashes with both of his draws but not this week.
Aside from game one, won by Leilani Wiggins with Robert Lansberry, 516, and Rob Scoggins with Peggy Towne, 497, Peckinpaugh and his partner(s) took firsts and seconds in both games two and three.
Peckinpaugh’s lucky draws were Sam Bowman and Herbert Scott, so you can see where this is going.
Peckinpaugh and Bowman took first in game two (601) and second in game three (510).
Peckinpaugh and Scott took second place in game two (579) and first place in game three (531).
Rob Scoggins, James Halstead, Sam Bowman, and Leilani Wiggins were all strike pot winners along with Mike Peckinpaugh who won three.
There were no winners in the Challenge shots so the carry over amounts are increasing.
Join the adventure every Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Thunderbird Lanes.
This event is open to all senior bowlers age 50 and over with verifiable averages.
