Great Plains Technology Center’s Board of Education will have a new member Tuesday.
The board has designated Dr. Cindy Sheppard to take the Zone 5 seat formerly held by Dr. Ann Acers-Warn. Great Plains’ Zone 5 seat was one of the school board seats up for election this year, but Acers-Warn did not file for re-election and also resigned her seat before her term was completed. The seat has been vacant since Acer-Warn’s resignation, but the remaining school board members voted last week to appoint Sheppard to fill that unexpired term.
Sheppard, a long-time Lawton dentist, was the only candidate to file for the Zone 5 seat during the school board filing period in December, meaning she would take the seat without an election. That means after she completes Acers-Warn’s unexpired term in April, she will be sworn into her new five-year term May 7.
