There are still open spots for the Lawton Citizens Police Academy which is set to begin Thursday.
The academy will include information on operations, community issues, videos and hands-on training to help citizens better understand how they can help to make the community safer among the course.
It’s designed to help citizens have a better idea of how the Lawton Police Department functions as well as to create two-way communication between citizens and officers, according to Sgt. Christopher Blessing, Lawton Police information officer.
The Citizens Police Academy is from Thursday through April 11. There will be 12, three-hour weekly sessions each Thursday at the Great Plains Tech Center Building 900, 4500 W. Lee, and is completely free to the public.
Any person 18 and older who lives or works in the Lawton or Comanche County area is eligible to attend.
You may visit www.lawtonok.gov/events to download and complete the application.
Applications may also be picked up at the front desk of the Lawton Police Department, 100 S. Railroad or Building 900 at the tech center.
