Sports briefs

Norma Hill was out and about last Tuesday evening, making a rare and much welcomed appearance at Thunderbird Lanes to watch and visit with friends and family in what was once her weekly night time mixed league, the His and Hers.

Mrs. Hill brought out the best in a few of the bowlers, including grandson Brant Hill who registered this week’s high series of 782 that included a game with 11 strikes in a row.

Brant started with games of 257 and 227 before unleashing the eleven strikes, looking to show-off a little with a perfect game.

All went well until the last roll that may have found a little puddle and didn’t make the turn, leaving the 4-5 on the deck for a 298 score.

League secretary Jeff Janssen also had a night worth boasting as he put games of 215, 257 and 278 together for a 750 total.

And a shout out to first year leaguer John Lewis Sr. for converting the 4-10 split.

Our next honor came from the senior Entertainers league where Teri Jester kicked off the day with a spare and the next 11 in a row for a 290 score.

Jester added a 220 for game two but lost all of her carry in game three where even spares were few and far between, finishing up with a 656

Adult Highlights

The Entertainers was the setting for the senior league high series of 735 by Richard Jacoby who found his way to games of 245, 265 and 225 to make up the set.

The Suburban league had their best bowling shoes on and had a stellar night reporting several good sets.

In the mix was Kent Ames with games of 258, 245 and 233 for a 736, Andrea Halstead with 214, 269 and 248 for a 731, the women’s high series of the week, Troy Hardin went 205, 241 and 278 for a 724, Joe Langley rolled 222, 263 and 236 for a 721 and Noah Ellis threw his hat in the ring with 708 on games of 232, 225 and 251.

We want to give a shout out to Greg Jones for games of 208. 203 and 206 for a 617 off a 159 average bowled in the TNT where Kellan Hill made his mark last week with a 704 series on games of 237, 223 and 244.

Youth Highlights

Youth league are back with Jake Croft leading in the TBird Legends with a 628 that went 192, 225 and 211.

DJ Scott headed up the HotShots with a 437 on games of 128, 141 and 168 and in the MiniShots bumper squad, William Hern rolled a 109, Knox Hill rolled a 106, William Mullins rolled a 101 and Ellie Madden posted her first 100 even game.

No-Tap News

Gene Augustine III took first place in the men’s division of the weekly senior no-tap at Thunderbird Lanes.

Augustine rolled 279, 204 and 278 to post 854 with handicap.

Second place went to John Fortner for an 813 that included scratch scores of 226, 257 and 258.

Sue Avis retained her no-tap champ title for the ladies for another week with 812, followed by Cathy Shuman’s score of 810.

Scratch singles standings matched handicap with Augustine finishing in first with 761, Fortner finish-ing in second with 741 and Mike Peckinpaugh took third with 733.

Mystery Doubles winners were Eugene Augustine III with Kevin Pair taking game one with 571, and the team of Mike Peckinpaugh with Cathy Shuman taking first in game two with 498 and game three with 585.

Ken Knoff was the only bowler to win a strike pot ticket but the first two Special Challenge shots went out the door with no problem.

Peggy Towne was first up for the “21 Jackpot” and made short work of winning the purse throwing a nine count and then back to back six counts for a total of 21.

Rob Scoggins was next up for “Match Play” where he rolled three 9-counts in a row to win.

This event held every Friday afternoon starting at 1PM and is open to all senior bowlers age 50 (+) with a verifiable average.
