A Hollis woman pleaded guilty Tuesday to causing the wreck that killed her 8-month-old son in 2021 while she was high on methamphetamine.
Kiah Myesha Bell, 28, pleaded guilty in Comanche County District Court to felony counts of first-degree manslaughter and child endangerment for driving under the influence of drugs as well as misdemeanor charges of failure to use a child restraint and failure to maintain insurance, records indicate.
District Judge Jay Walker sentenced Bell to 20 years with 10 years suspended and 10 years to serve in prison for the manslaughter charge and a concurrent four years for the driving under the influence count.
The three-vehicle wreck killed Bell’s infant son, Easton Nash, at the intersection of Northwest 82nd Street and Quanah Parker Trailway. Bell ran a red light at high speed and crashed into two vehicles, causing Nash to hurdle unrestrained through the sunroof from her Kia Sport into the intersection. A 2-year-old boy and 1-month-old boy also were inside the vehicle.
Investigators said Easton’s car seat was unsecured and the child harness unfastened. Investigators determined Bell was driving just under 61 mph in the 45 mph zone, the affidavit states.
Bell will receive credit for time served. She has been held on $500,000 bond since her initial court appearance June 16, 2021, records indicate.
