Lawton police have identified the city’s first homicide victim of 2024 while they continue to investigate what led to his death.
Levell Newton was shot and killed on New Year’s Day, according to Sgt. Christopher Blessing, Lawton Police Department information officer.
Officers were called shortly after 4:30 p.m. to 1618 SW New York to assist medical personal with an unresponsive person. Officers arrived to find Newton suffering from a gunshot wound, according to Blessing. Newton died at the scene.
Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division are continuing to search for information as to what led up to the shooting and, subsequently, Newton’s death.
