It sure looks like we saved the worst for last when looking at our scores from last week, or should I say the lack of scores but in explanation, several leagues took one or two weeks off over the holidays so that cut down considerably on the number of league bowlers on the floor.
And to be honest, there is one more league left to report before we slam the book closed on 2023. We will have those scores for you in the next issue of bowling news.
(Spoiler Alert: One more honor added to the year.)
Adult Highlights
In the meantime, Chad Perry and James Biscaino were the only bowlers to roll a 700 series, both in the Suburban on the week before their last week of the year.
Biscaino was in the lead after two with games of 234 and 245 to Perry’s 253 and 212.
Biscaino stayed in the zone and put up a 243 closer for a 722 total but Perry got lined up and threw a 279 in the mix and ended his night with 744 for the week’s high game and series.
The Suburban is also the league where Lisa Tipton-Gass rolled the ladies high series of 624 on games of 205, 203 and 216 and where the ladies high game of 233 went in the books for Megan (Wehmeier) McAnally.
Youth Highlights
Youth bowling will pick back up next Saturday at Thunderbird Lanes but this week, we have their scores from their last outing back on Dec. 16th.
Jake Croft took top honors in the TBird Legends with a 576 series on games of 202, 194 and 180.
Teammates DJ Scott and Lee Perry shared the spotlight in the TBird HotShots with Scott taking high series with a 433 and Perry getting high game kudos for a 187.
And in the MiniShots bumpers league, William Hern had the high game of the day of 116 and Kovie Hicks rolled a 100 even.
Many thanks to everyone who supported the recent Quilt & Spare ball give-a-way. Proceeds go to the youth program at Thunderbird Lanes.
The two winners who each received a spare ball of choice and a beautiful handmade lap quilt (courte-sy of Kathi Keithley’s Mom) were Chris Lindsey (Early Birds) and Andrew Jenkins (Saturday morning Dad).
No-Tap News
Sam Bowman was the star bowler on the men’s side, posting 300, 264 and 265 to take first place in the final Senior No-Tap Colorama of 2023 with a 904 handicap total.
Second place went to David Yett who rolled 266, 300 and 224 for an 844 and Billy Carrion finished in third with an 840.
Cathy Shuman was the ladies winner with 814 thanks to a 265 closer, followed by Leilani Wiggins with 761.
Scratch winners were Sam Bowman, 829, David Yett, 790, Malden Smith, 670 and Rob Scoggins, 663.
Mystery doubles winners were Ken Knoff with Sam Bowman, 617, David Yett with James “Santa” Halstead (who knew?), 599, and Cleo Travis with Cathy Shuman, 565.
And Strike pot winners were Mike Peckinpaugh, Sam Bowman, Herbert Scott and James Halstead.
As you know, the ‘Waldo’ left with last Friday’s Colorama but in his place he left the “Odd” and the “Even”, spare conversions where only the odd pins are left on deck or only on the even pins are left to be all knocked down in one shot.
The “Odd”, as you might guess, is the easiest with the head pin in the bunch and Mike Peckinpaugh proved that by making the spare on its premier appearance.
The 2024 season will kick off this coming Friday afternoon starting at 1pm.
This event is open to all senior bowlers age 50 (+) with a verifiable average.
