23-year-old Lawton man to serve life for 2021 murder

A 23-year-old Lawton man will serve life in prison with the opportunity for parole for a September 2021 murder.

Following a pre-sentencing investigation, Presiding Comanche County District Judge Emmit Tayloe sentenced Coyante Jacoy Williams to serve a life sentence for the murder count and another 385 days for a count of assault and battery with a deadly weapon, records indicate.

Due to the violent nature of the crime, Williams will have to serve at least 85 percent of his sentence before being considered for parole. In Oklahoma, 45 years is considered a life sentence, so Williams will have to serve 38 years and 3 months at a minimum.

Williams also will have to pay $18,415.35 in restitution, court costs and fines.

Although Assistant District Attorney Jill Oliver sought a life sentence without the possibility of parole, Tayloe followed the recommendation of the Comanche County jury that found him guilty on Oct. 4 following trial.

Williams was convicted of shooting Kalob R. Porter, 20, three times and killing him in September 2021. During his testimony from the witness stand, Williams claimed he shot Porter in self-defense during a drug deal gone wrong.

Williams had been free on $75,000 bond since his initial court appearance in November 2021, but he was recommitted by his bondsman in September 20202. Tayloe ordered he receive credit for time served.
