Pepper spray trumps plate of waffles in Thanksgiving day domestic in Duncan

DUNCAN — A woman said that after she was hit over the head with a plate of waffles and syrup, her young daughter pepper sprayed a Duncan man.

Investigators described the man’s silhouette outlined on a door frame marking where he’d been sprayed.

On Monday, Abe Solano III, 50, made his initial appearance in Stephens County District Court where he received a felony charge of domestic assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, records indicate. The crime is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

Duncan police were called to a home in the 2200 block of West Holly Street shortly before 9 a.m. Nov. 23, Thanksgiving day, about a domestic assault. During the 911 call, the dispatcher heard a man yelling and threatening a woman, the probable cause affidavit states.

Officer Allison Boecker arrived and found the woman and her juvenile daughter crying and running toward her. The woman said Solano was still in the home. He was found sitting in the kitchen area with red residue on his face, the affidavit states.

The woman said Solano had been trashing the house and throwing things from her daughter’s room while telling them to get out, Boecker stated. She said Solano came into their bedroom and hit her with a glass plate with waffles and syrup and told her he hated her, according to the affidavit. The woman ran into her daughter’s room and Solano followed, she said, with his arm raised attempting to hit the girl.

The girl responded by pepper spraying him, Boecker stated.

Solano called 911 against the woman and girl and they took the opportunity to run from the house. Solano was arrested.

More officers arrived and noticed the woman still had syrup and pieces of plate in her hair along with scratches on her back due to the plate breaking over her head, the affidavit states. Broken glass pieces were on the floor, syrup was on the wall and a waffle landed on the bed.

Boecker stated Solano’s silhouette from the pepper spray was on the girl’s bedroom door frame.

Solano’s initial court appearance was terminated until he could retain an attorney, according to court records.
