The NEA Big Read: Lawton 2023, a community-wide celebration of literature and the arts, is drawing to a close with a grand finale on Thursday.
One of the last events is the Ekphrastic Workshop: Images and Poetry, along with “A Catalogue of Unabashed Gratitude”-inspired art show.
Ken Hada, a professor at East Central University and a renowned figure in American literature, will lead the workshop from noon-3 p.m. at the Cameron University Shepler Ballroom.
Hada’s expertise spans modern American, regional, and ethnic literature. His book, “Contour Feathers” (Turning Plow Press, 2021), was honored with the Oklahoma Book Award for poetry. His latest work, “Come Before Winter” (Turning Plow Press, 2023), is now available. Hada’s literary contributions have earned recognition from the Oklahoma Center for the Book, the National Western Heritage Museum, Western Writers of America, and the South Central Modern Language Association.
